Clothes moths and carpet beetles are quite small in size with a 6-7mm body length and 9-16mm wingspan.  Our pest control service is specialized, only targeting properties with moths & carpet beetles in Central London & the suburbs, which will include the outside of the M25. It is the larvae that feeds on the clothing and carpets which cause expensive and irreparable damage to our much loved cashmere and woollens.

Moths prefer undisturbed concealed areas and natural fabrics that contain human sweat or body fluids in which to lay their eggs.  This makes it difficult to locate them in your property. When they reach adulthood, their only purpose is to reproduce, which is why you see them in flight, as the female is releasing her pheromones to attract the male moth for reproduction. Once the eggs hatch the larvae start to feed on the natural fibres available in wardrobes and carpets, and are very small and almost impossible to see. They feed on the keratin protein found in wool, cotton, linen and silk, also in hair and feathers. They can, like the pantry moth, be found in flour, bran and biscuits. They originate from birds nests in trees and in loft voids where they often enter the property through light fittings and loft entrances.

Carpet beetles are another fabric feeding insect which will damage all fabrics throughout your property. This is a pest that affects not only your carpets, but everything in your wardrobe, as it is a more aggressive feeder than the moth. The carpet beetle can be identified by the damage they cause, as they tend to feed moving in circles, hence why they create 5mm to 10mm round holes in your clothes. They can also contaminate flour and pasta and cause skin irritations like the bed bug and irritate your eyes. You might see the larvae or the droppings around the edges of the carpets or under the beds and are black and about the size of a grain of sand.
